Writing a compelling press release involves creating a memorable, timely, and newsworthy story and getting it to the right people. A press release is no longer than one page, and the most important is the four or five-word headline when designing. The headline should draw the reader in quickly and motivate them to read further. If this isn’t intriguing, newsworthy, or unique, the journalist will read no further.
Below the headline comes a concise, one-line summary of the press release. Like the headline, the synopsis should quickly pull the reader in and motivate them to learn more. A press release looks like a newspaper article and should start with a location and time stamp like “Atlanta, GA – January 10, 2022.” The following introduction of 20 to 25 words should be the lede or a summary of the leading news and include the five W’s: Who, What, When, Where, and Why.
The rest of the story is written in the order of importance just in case they don’t finish the article and should include any relevant quotes from company CEOs, Scientists, etc.
The last part should be specific information about the company, including website, social channels, phone number, email address, contact information, and address to drive traffic to your website or landing page.
